It was just a normal average day in the office. I got my writing in as well as a little editing. My time here at the paper is coming to a close, so it is a little sad. I have had a really fun time here at the paper. It was a very enlightening experience.

Today started like any other day in the office, but quickly became something interesting. I did my usual compost the 10 years ago section of the The Newcastle Record and The Salem Times-Register. This time though today become wild. We had people calling in about a former Salem resident that was being accused of committing murder. It was a very intense day with trying to find which high school he graduate from.

Okay, so once I got to the office and away from all the hulabuloo about voting, which I did, this week in the office was much like all my other weeks. I got in asked my boss what I had to do, and then I got right on it. I wrote my ten years ago sections for both of the newspapers and made sure they sounded okay. So in a sense I was able to get in some writing and editing done.

Interning In October

Okay, so it has been a while since I mad a blog post. I figured I would do one big post for October. So the month of October was pretty similar to my others working here. I did writing and editing. I also got to work on a project making a wreath. I have really enjoyed getting into more editing. I will admit doing an interview and writing an article on my own still scares me. Oh well I guess it is something to work on for the next two months. Three months down and two months to go. I have almost all of my hours done which is exciting.

Week of September 17-21,2012

So among my hectic schedule this week, yet again on Tuesday I find myself at my desk at my internship. Today was just like any other Tuesday. I got to edit and work on writing an article. I even got deal the readers of the paper a little bit. So overall this week was pretty low key.

Week of September 10-14,2012

So this week was pretty fun. I did some more writing and some more editing. An article about me is going to be in this weeks of the Salem-Times Register with an included picture. I am really not liking the idea of me having the picture in the paper is very scary.

Week of September 3-7, 2012

My internship this week was pretty lax. Once again I did some writing and editing on Tuesday when I went in to work. I have to say I really enjoy what I do at my internship. My boss is super helpful and super understanding. She helps me when I don't understand something and is willing to push me to make sure I get the full newspaper experience.

Week Two August 20-23

So week two on the job has been a lot more interesting. This week I have gotten to do editing and writing which is really exciting. Today I actually got to go to a ribbon cutting ceremony. I was in charge of getting pictures,but sadly the sun didn't not want to cooperate with me. It was a good thing my supervisor was there to help.

One thing I have learned this week is that newspaper writing is a lot different then writing papers. I mean it kills me to have to be short and choppy and have to abbreviate, and even through these little  blurbs seems easier to write they aren't. Newspaper writers have to make a lot out of a little.

All about Week 1 August 13-16,2012

So when I got this internship at the beginning of this summer I was ecstatic. After trying to land an internship for four months I finally succeed at getting one. Unfortunately I wasn't able to actually start working until last Monday.

This past week was all about introductions, scheduling, and making sure loose ends were neatly tied up. My first day I was shown around the office, I was introduced to my fellow coworkers, and I actually got to do some work. The rest of the week was much more exciting. Tuesday and Wednesday I was able to edit two of the newspapers that come out of the office in Salem, so that was a good experience. I am glad that I am able to intern at small paper, because I know if I had interned at a larger paper I wouldn't be getting so much hands on work.

I am really looking forward to forward to the rest of my time working at the Salem Times-Register. I can't wait to see what other things I will learn and get to do while on the job.
